Subject: Update Regarding Incident and Police Presence at Timken Elementary School
Dear Canton Community, Parents, and Guardians,
This morning, Timken Elementary School received two separate reports regarding a possible weapon being brought to the school today. One report was left as a message on the school voicemail, and the second was made directly to 911.
The 911 call prompted an immediate response from the Canton Police Department. The school was immediately placed on lockdown, and an investigation was launched in close coordination with law enforcement.
School administration and the Canton Police Department quickly identified the source of both calls, gathered additional information concerning the threat, and determined that the individual involved was not a threat to the building or our students. Once police made contact with the individual, the lockdown was lifted.
The safety and security of our staff and students is our top priority. We are extremely thankful for the quick response of the Canton Police Department, the alert students and parents who reported the incident to us and to the authorities, and our dedicated staff who acted swiftly to ensure the safety of our students and peers.
Sincerely,
Jeffery S. Talbert Superintendent
Canton City School District
